The owners love for mid-century homes as well as ties to the region since childhood summers spent swimming in White Lake, brought them to the White Lake Homes in the Catskills. Between 1960 and 1968 Approximately 150 Mid-century modern 2 & 3 bedroom homes were built on the western shores of White Lake in the Sullivan County Catskills in the town of Bethel which is a 5 minutes’ drive to the site of the original Woodstock Festival in 1969. In 1960 you could visit the office of White Lake Homes, inc and choose from an exciting array of “easy to care for floor plans and styles” from a catalog featuring 2 and 3 bedroom homes priced from $9,950 to $12,500.
The Catalina, the least expensive featured 2 bedrooms. The mid line Capri featured 2 bed rooms with an added open carport. The top of the line Monterey had 3 bedrooms and a full concrete basement. Purchasers could also have it decorated by a professional attending to every detail right down to the cutlery on the table and the towels in the bath. Also Included with purchase was “a large community pool and a fireproof Clubhouse with a stage, bar, lounges, card room and snack bar.” The club also had access to the lake with docks for the owner’s boats.
Azin Valy’s aim was to modernize and upgrade the house with new amenities and materials but maintain the spirit of the mid-century architecture by creating a fun, colorful environment to enjoy with family and friends during the summers and all year around.
